Darik’s Boot and Nuke DBAN

I was going to post about this software months ago to let MyDeafDog users know how much i liked it and how it can help with faulty and or old unused hard drives, Well thing happen and i forgot all about it.

I was having trouble with a PC on our network and after starting a reinstall of windows XP the PC kept throwing an error that it could not complete the installation, Re-tried a few time but kept getting the same results. Ran a Google  search and found this great little program called DBAN

After burning to cd and running this on our sick PC we soon had a clean full hard drive to reinstall win XP on. Also DBANed a few Hard drives that were lying around gathering dust.

Darik’s Boot and Nuke (“DBAN”) is a self-contained boot disk that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely removed the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction.

DBAN is a means of ensuring due diligence in computer recycling, a way of preventing identity theft if you want to sell a computer, and a good way to totally clean a Microsoft Windows installation of viruses and spyware. DBAN prevents or thoroughly hinders all known techniques of hard disk forensic analysis.
